What is really lacking in relational marketing and more particularly in prospecting is some consideration and listening on the side of the retailers towards their prospects, the aim being to come up with a solution or an alternative, not to convince at all costs! Trying to convince is a mistake, however, encouraging dialogue is much more objective! Remind yourself that every single person is a free and distinct human being. Pay more attention to the way you welcome your potential partner, so that he or she feels he can express himself/herself with complete confidence. From then on, you’ll be able to help him or her find a solution or suggest an alternative in order to improve his or her situation while significantly reducing the possibility of meeting with opposition.

It’s an investment in energy and time, and the guarantees you get in return for these efforts are proportional to the nature of the risks that you take. Proficiency in communication implies the ability to focus as much on the person in front of you as on yourself. The order in which the relationship is build does not matter, what is important is that the protagonists truly meet, and not, as it is often the case, just pretend to.
